Julie* calls. She isn’t prepared for the pileup of losses and disappointments. Broken relationships. Failed dreams and missed opportunities. Illness. Career struggles. Parenting challenges. Heartbreaking deaths, even. She has survived some better than others, and has even fooled people close to her into thinking she is ‘fine’ and ‘has it all together’ — If they only knew the aching longing in her heart.
Every day Julie is dragging herself up with the alarm clock to begin the race that feels like a masquerade ball. Julie spends her days trying to get it all done and make everyone happy by DOING. Lots of motion; little meaning or fulfillment. Lots of emptiness; little joy; little peace.
Like most busy, driven women, rarely does Julie find enough time to BE – to nourish her magnificent body, mind, heart, and spirit with something substantial and fulfilling. If it’s quiet, it’s lonely, anxiety-ridden and depressing. Even in her own home. This is certainly not the story she wants to be writing for her life.
*Julie is representative of many women and men seeking and finding help here
Over a few months, Julie accomplishes these life changes with consistent hard work and perseverance. Her therapist, guides her, listens, challenges, follows and teaches her. We practice skills in session, and she experiments with new beliefs and behaviors in her daily life.
It’s so rewarding to see Julie’s outlook, her experience of herself, and her future forever set on a new trajectory that started with one right phone call.
